Break Dancing

What is Breakdance?

Breakdance, also known as breaking, is an urban dance style that originated in New York City between the late 1960s and late 1970s. It is built on four foundational elements:

  1. Toprock: Toprock is performed while standing and serves as the opening display of style in a breakdancer's routine. It often acts as a transition into footwork, power moves, or freezes.

  2. Footwork: Footwork involves the dancer, known as a b-boy or b-girl, moving close to the floor, using their hands for support while executing a variety of intricate steps with their legs.

  3. Power Moves: These are acrobatic movements that require strength and momentum, adding a dynamic element to the dancer’s round.

  4. Freezes: A freeze is when a dancer halts all movement, holding a visually striking or balance-intensive pose to emphasize control and skill.

My name is Victor A Rodriguez I was born February 9, 1989. I started to dance Breaking in 2008 in my city in Puerto Rico as a hobby at first, but then I started to go to competitions and jams. I really like it and I start to do it more seriously and professionally. I did some commercials in my home country and went to an international Latin TV show in Miami. I taught in private dance studios and summer camps in my country seven years ago. When I moved to River Falls WI I started to compete in different state competitions and I've been a part of the Timber Wolves 1st Avenue Breakers for six seasons now.

My name is Xiomara Troche I was born February 14 1992 in Puerto Rico. When I was ten years old I started dancing and choreography classes in big groups. In 2010 I started to practice breaking which I loved right away because it was a way to be free and to work out too. In my country, I taught in different private studios working with kids and adults. Seven years ago I moved to River Falls with my husband and son. Right now I'm in my sixth season with the Timberwolves in the First Avenue Breakers. In the last 3 years, I have been the champion of the Midwest b-girl Red Bull Cypher representing my country and the Midwest.
