5 Reasons We Love Dance at The Dancing House đź’› (+ a Bonus Reason!)

Sept. 21

At The Dancing House, we believe dance should be "The Hghlight of Your Week!" For 17 years, we’ve had the joy of sharing the art of dance with students of all ages and abilities—from our tiniest 2-year-olds to our wisest 72 +year-olds. And while we could list a hundred reasons we love dance, here are five of our favorites (plus a little bonus we just can’t leave out!).

1. Dance is a Primary Need

From the very beginning of life, we’re wired for rhythm. Our heartbeat is our first drumbeat, and as little ones, it only takes a song before we’re swaying, tapping, or bobbing our heads. Dance is natural. It’s in us.

That doesn’t fade with age—it grows. Just this past week, a teenager joined her very first class at TDH, walking in all by herself. She tried hip hop with Miss Xiomara and absolutely loved it. Afterwards, her mom shared, “Seeing her excited to try something new and have fun makes my mama heart filled with joy.” That joy—that spark—is proof that dance truly meets a deep need inside of us.

2. Dance Builds Confidence

Walking into a studio for the first time takes courage. Staying, moving, and trying something new takes even more. We’ve seen dancers, just like that brave teen, leave class taller, stronger, and more confident than when they walked in.

Confidence doesn’t happen overnight—it comes from showing up, learning new steps, making mistakes, and realizing you can do hard things. Whether it’s performing on stage or mastering a step you thought you couldn’t, dance has a way of reminding you just how capable you are.

3. Dance Strengthens the Mind + Body Connection

We say it often: dance is so much more than movement. It’s healing. It’s connection. When we move, we release stress, anxiety, and overwhelm. The music and the steps bring us fully into the moment—body, mind, and spirit.

In class, you’re not thinking about your to-do list. You’re not worrying about what’s next. You’re present. You’re engaged. You’re connected—to yourself, your classmates, your teacher, and your joy.

4. Dance Supports Health + Wellness

Yes, dance builds strong muscles and flexibility, but it also supports mental health in a powerful way. Movement releases endorphins, boosts energy, and helps us reset. Because dance engages both body and brain, it strengthens memory, improves balance, and builds stamina while also giving us the gift of focus.

Simply put, dance makes us feel better—inside and out.

5. Dance Improves Brain Performance

Scientists have shown that dance improves memory, focus, and problem-solving skills. When we learn combinations of steps and patterns, we’re strengthening the parts of our brain that handle planning, organizing, and recall. This is especially powerful for kids in school and adults navigating busy lives.

At TDH, we see this play out daily: dancers become better listeners, more focused learners, and even more creative thinkers. It’s one of the many reasons we believe dance is a lifelong gift.

✨ Bonus: Why We Love Dancing at The Dancing House

There are dance classes everywhere, but what makes TDH unique is the experience.

Our classes are intentionally small (just 8 dancers per session). Our teachers curate lessons to who’s in the room, making sure every student feels seen, encouraged, and celebrated. We don’t just teach steps—we nurture kindness, empathy, creativity, integrity, and confidence in every class.

And when dancers leave our doors? We hope they feel lighter, happier, more confident, and excited to come back for dance day!

That’s what makes us “The Highlight of Your Week.” 💛

👉 Want to experience it for yourself? Join us for our six-week sessions or check out our year-round program! Yes, we're still taking students. Whether you’re 2 or 102, there’s a place for you here at The Dancing House.

"We found the The Dancing House in 2021 after our 9 year old showed interest in starting dance. We weren't sure how well she'd do and I was worried that she was starting dance late, so a studio specializing in beginners of all ages was perfect for us. The patient, encouraging, and positive atmosphere is wonderful and the instructors are amazing. My now 13 year old takes classes in many different styles of dance and has really grown up with The Dancing House. The Dancing House isnt a place only for beginners, they have something for everyone and I would highly recommend The Dancing House to anyone regardless of where they are in their dance journey."
